FAQs

Is the competition only for members?
Anyone can enter. First, an AIGA account is required. Creating an AIGA account is free and easy.

  1. Joining AIGA is an option during the two-step process, simply continue when prompted to become a member. Then log out to reset your cart.
  2. To opt-out of the join process once you've created your account, simply close the tab and return to the competition page to login and continue with the credentials you've just created.

I think I'm a member, but I am getting the nonmember rate.
Please confirm your membership has not recently lapsed. You may be up for renewal and need to reinstate your membership before you begin. Please login to my.aiga.org to confirm your member status. Or search the Member Directory to confirm if a colleague has an active membership (Note: names of members in good standing will only appear if they have selected the directory option). Please contact membership@aiga.org if you have questions about your membership status.

Why am I being charged nonmember fees?
The competition system looks at your member type when you login to determine the correct fees. If you decide to join or renew in mid-cart, you must log out to reset the fees. See below for more information.

The member fee is not showing after I join/renew my membership. How do I update the entry fees in my cart?
First, save your work! To update your cart, please log out of the competition system and also log out of my.aiga.org. This will reset your account. Then, login again to refresh your member settings and your cart. If this does not refresh your cart, please contact membership@aiga.org. It is possible that you may have a duplicate account, and we will need to merge them in order for you to continue.

Do I have to complete the online form and upload images when I register and pay?
Yes. The online form must be completed for all entries. The images and descriptions will be used to promote entries in the Entry Gallery, and if selelcted by the jurors, in the Winners Gallery when the best of 2023 are announced.

Can the same entry be consideration in multiple categories? Does this require multiple entries and additional entry fees?
Yes. You may select the category in which you think your entry fits most accurately in terms of its purpose, or you may enter the same peice in more than one category. If you want a related piece from a single entry or series / campaign entry to be considered on its own in another category, you may also (or instead) enter it as a single entry in the another category. You will be required to pay a separate fee for submitting to multiple categories. Go to Eligibility and Criteria to see if a Single or Series / Campaign Entry makes sense for you.

Is my work eligible?
Work in all media is eligible if it has been designed, produced, or launched publicly and available for sale or use in the general marketplace between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023. Generally, © 2023 will be indicative of the eligibility date. New work created after December 31, 2023 will not be considered. See more at deadlines and eligibility plus terms and conditions.

Are international entries eligible?
Yes. International entries are eligible. In order for the jury to understand the content and context, entries that are published in languages other than English must include an English-language counterpart—this can be  previously published content or bilingual content. Non-English entries in the must include an English translation of the title and a content or purchasing URL if available.

Is student work eligible?
If it has been designed, produced, or launched publicly for a client and also available for sale or use in the general marketplace between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023 (© 2023), it is eligible. One-off student school projects don’t qualify and won’t be considered.

Where do I send my work?

No physical copies will be required at this time; we are unable to accept packages at the AIGA office. All work will be judged online.

What does “no background (silhouetted or full bleed)” mean?
The primary image will appear as the thumbnail in the online galleries. We’d like to standardize images to the extent possible.

The preference is a straight-ahead shot with either no background (image is the exact dimensions of the work) or full bleed (image extends to the edges with no border). We will also accept a photograph of the work on a solid background.

It can be helpful to photograph the work on a solid white background to give the object some dimension. Supporting images and video will also accomplish this.

Below are some examples:

Image with seamless background (silhouetted against solid white background):
Joe Coffee
Support California’s Public Higher Education

Image with no background (full bleed):
SAYL
Intelligent Cities

Can I upload/share more than one video?
Yes! Please take advantage of all the available fields for uploads and links if it will help communicate the experience or context to the jurors. Jurors will spend 90 seconds or less viewing each video:

  • Upload Primary Cover Image (as tiff)*
  • Upload Primary Cover Image (as png/jpg/gif)*
  • For print, web, and motion we encourage supporting image uploads (up to 5)
  • For print, web and motion, we encourage supporting video uploads (up to 3)
  • As an alternative, you may share a link (or two) to the supporting video (or collection of videos)
