PROJECT DESCRIPTION
UCSF is ranked #1 in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery. In order to nurture new (and deepen existing) philanthropic relationships, stakeholders at UCSF conceived of an exclusive two-day summit that would galvanize awareness around UCSF Neurosciences as the global leader at the frontier of understanding the brain. The event included presentations by doctors, scientists, and researchers sharing advancements around tackling disease, treating mental illness, and improving human life. Additionally, some of San Francisco’s most generous philanthropists hosted small private dinners.
The audience was an exclusive list of 200 people, and those who attended the event came away inspired and motivated to enable cutting edge brain science. Near term, success can only be measured anecdotally. but long term, UCSF succeeds at fundraising because it succeeds in enhancing and saving lives.
In collaboration with a variety of stakeholders at UCSF and Needham Partners, Elixir was involved in the naming, positioning, and ideation around all deliverables for the event. Branded event materials attempted to reflect the depth and groundbreaking nature of UCSF's work. This invitation – sent in a custom set-up box – employed a sense of discovery, layering, and tactility to engage the brain and get noticed in the mail.

Juror Comments
“A fine example of printing, die cutting, blind embossing, and no-margin-for-error folding, this invitation drew sincere praise for its standard of craft, a standard rarely seen in collateral print today. The paper choice—textural blue/grey duplex—is a refreshing throwback/innovation. A reminder that all paper does not actually have to be filled, smooth, and blindingly white.”
