PROJECT DESCRIPTION
AMA Constructing Memory Interactive Art Book showcases the stories of 100 victims of state violence in Nicaragua and their families' demand for justice. Through QR codes the audience can access video testimonials, photographs, and maps (hand-drawn maps and GIS) that localize the murders of each victim, and 3D replicas of altars created by their families to honor their loved ones with objects that belonged to the victims.
The book aims to translate the museum experience into a portable object and transgress the Nicaraguan state of repression and censorship and reach wider audiences outside Nicaraguan borders including Nicaraguans in exile and diaspora. The AR experience design proposes collective rituals of mourning to remember the victims.
This AR experience is part of a larger transmedia participatory digital project titled “AMA y No Olvida”, trans. “Love and do not forget: Memory Museum against Impunity” that was created in collaboration with the families of the victims organized in the Association Mothers of April (AMA), with a human rights and participatory approach, to support the families' organizing efforts, dignify the victims who have been denied justice and as a way to challenge the climate of impunity that the regime wants to install.
