PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Lubeznik Center for the Arts is a hidden gem in Michigan City, Indiana. The world-class cultural hub brings community together through eclectic programming and exhibits that foster meaningful connections—from poetry slams to educational programming.
Much like an experience at Center, the logo comes in many flavors, from formal to playful. The primary logotype sits comfortably on the formal end—the pared-back vibe is perfect for donor events and art exhibitions. The bolder, more playful variation is just right for youth programming and vibrant community activities.
As an extension of the logo, we developed a full custom typeface that captures all the facets of their personality—and the architecture of the space itself. The letters are a monospaced, reverse-contrast, variable sans-serif and enable dynamic animations between the formal and playful states. When animating across the full spectrum, the center’s full personality springs to life.
The website provided endless opportunities for our designers and developers to play with visual and technical details. Dramatic floods of color shift as users scroll, and playful animations on rollover highlight a delightful variety of artwork and programs.

“A very good example of encapsulating the positive, vibrant energy of a city’s art center—the simple type-based system can speak in almost as many voices as the institution serves.” —Jan Wilker
