PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Background:
Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra planned a complete renewal of its brand identity, with the aim of positioning the orchestra at the forefront of the international classical music scene, while helping involve a wider audience, including young concert visitors.
Idea:
The designers created a method for making music visible even to “general public” who cannot necessarily read sheet music. As a result of teamwork between musicians and graphic artists, a rethought notation system was born, by which virtually any piece of music can be visualized. In this music-driven dynamic identity, the graphic signals generated by the various sounds result in a unique, yet consistent look that forms the brand identity as a whole.
Execution:
The logo visualizes the first beats of Bartok's Divertimento, by which the orchestra pays tribute to Bartok's musical genius.
Given the dynamic nature of the identity, each member of the orchestra could have their own personalized logo based on their favorite piece from the repertoire.
The identity was launched on online and offline channels by a provocative "Can you see the music?" teaser campaign.
A custom developed logo design application involved the audience to become part of the brand renewal process.

“The visual identity for Franz Liszt achieves the elusive balance between being contemporary and classic at once. The mark, which visualizes music, shines throughout its applications.” —Rafael Esquer
“This brand identity takes a technical concept and applies it in such a way that you still see the organic nature of the music. It is an excellent example of what happens when designers collaborate with other disciplines.” —Nakita Pope
